INTRODUCTION:

The Great Falls Kayak Coalition is an organization formed to protect access to the Great Falls section of the Potomac River for responsible use by advanced whitewater paddlers. This organization strives to represent the concerns of those paddlers to the surrounding community and local authorities.

Our top priority is maintaining access to the falls through a courteous, pro-active, harmonious relationship with the authorities who could act to restrict access. The authorities in question are: the Maryland Natural Resources Police (within the MD DNR), the U.S. Park Police, the C&O Canal NHP District Ranger for Palisades District, the Great Falls Park Supervisory Ranger, the GW Memorial Parkway Superintendent (Great Falls Park is part of GWMP), the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department, and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department - Company 12.
